Exiting Using the App Briefcase Menu When you select Exit in the App Briefcase tray menu App Briefcase proceeds by first closing all apps running from the USB drive. More than just a convenience, closing the apps is necessary to ensure all changes being made by those apps to their program settings on the host computer are finalized. Once all the apps have closed App Briefcase stores a copy a of the selected apps' program settings to the USB drive, ready for use in the next session. App Briefcase warns you that it is about to close all apps running from the USB drive so you won't be surprised when it happens. When you no longer need the warning you can turn it off in the Options window. When the apps begin closing they will prompt you if you need to save any unsaved changes. If you click Cancel for any of those prompts then it will cancel the closing of that app as well as cancel the closing of App Briefcase. Exiting Windows If you exit Windows while App Briefcase is running then App Briefcase will wait for the other apps on the USB drive to close before copying the selected apps' program settings from the host computer. Yanking the USB Drive You should avoid removing the USB drive from the host computer without first performing a safe eject from the taskbar tray! Doing so can result in file and folder corruptions on the drive. However, if the USB drive is abruptly removed App Briefcase will handle the situation fairly gracefully. App Briefcase will immediately close all apps that are running from the drive. You will not be given a chance to save any unsaved changes in those apps before they are closed. If App Briefcase is running in guest mode then it will restore the host computer's original program settings, as it would normally do. Note that any changes made to the selected apps' program settings during the session will not be copied to the USB drive by App Briefcase since the drive is no longer present.
Crash Recovery App Briefcase is designed to handle a situation where either Windows or App Briefcase itself crashes. If a crash occurs simply restart App Briefcase. If App Briefcase was running in guest mode then it will restore the computer's original program settings and exit. Otherwise, App Briefcase will simply continue to run normally.
